When cockroaches flee their predators, they choose, seemingly at random, amongst one of a handful of preferred escape routes, according to a report published on Nov. 13, in Current Biology, a Cell Press publication.
Japanese scientists are studying how termites are able to live on a diet of wood, which is made all the more challenging by the fact that wood contains little nitrogen.

ScienceDaily (Nov. 24, 2008) — Bacteria that can cause serious heart disease in humans are being spread by rat fleas, sparking concern that the infections could become a bigger problem in humans. Research published in the December issue of the Journal of Medical Microbiology suggests that brown rats, the biggest and most common rats in Europe, may now be carrying the bacteria.
